Trek Maharashtra

Namaskar, traveller! I'm Trek Maharashtra

Where in Maharashtra do you want to go?

Forts on cliff tops. Waterfalls that roar all monsoon. Sunrise from the highest peak in the state. I have put everything I know into honest, simple guides. Tell me what you love, and I will show you where to go.

What the weather is doing

Winter · November

Cool, clear and dry until February. The best stretch of the year for forts and peaks.

Go now: my picks for

November
Khanderi Fort The sea is calmest from November to April. In the monsoon boats do not run. Easy difficulty Lohagad Fort In the monsoon the fort sits in the clouds and the valleys turn green; winter brings clear views of Pawna Lake and Visapur. Summer middays are hot and shadeless. Easy difficulty Panhala Fort Panhala is a monsoon favourite: cool, misty and green. Winter is clear and pleasant. Summer is warm but bearable at this height. Easy difficulty Pratapgad Fort Clear views over the Koyna valley and the Konkan. In the monsoon the fort is often lost in cloud and the steps are slippery, though the drive through the ghats is lovely. Easy difficulty Rajgad Fort Late monsoon and winter are the best: green slopes, waterfalls early on, then clear views of Torna and Sinhagad. Summer is very hot on the exposed machis. Moderate difficulty Salher Fort Cool, dry and clear after the monsoon, with views far into Gujarat. In the monsoon the rock-cut steps are dangerous and the top is in cloud; summer is very hot. Moderate difficulty Shivneri Fort Clear, cool mornings for the steps and the views over Junnar. The monsoon is green and beautiful but the rock-cut steps get slippery. Easy difficulty Vijaydurg Fort Dry, sunny and calm by the sea. From April it gets hot and humid, and the monsoon brings heavy rain and rough seas to the Devgad coast. Easy difficulty Raigad Fort Cool, clear days for the climb and the views. Summer afternoons are hot and the monsoon makes the steps slippery. Moderate difficulty Trimbakeshwar Temple Pleasant weather and normal crowds. Shravan (July–August) and Mahashivratri bring the biggest queues. Kalsubai Peak The most comfortable months to climb Moderate difficulty Purandar Fort Cool weather and clear skies Easy difficulty Raireshwar Fort October and November are the most comfortable months Easy difficulty Sinhagad Fort Clear views and cool air from October to February Easy difficulty Devkund Waterfall Open again after the monsoon closure Moderate difficulty
